Description:  Here is another b&w photo of Chicago South Shore & South Bend "Little Joe" #803 in the Michigan City yard behind the engine house. It appears to be one of the fan trips that were arranged during the 1960's & 1970's. No photographer was listed for the negative nor was a date given so an approximate date was used.

Title:  CSS 803 - Chicago South Shore & South Bend
Description:  Another iconic item was this double headed "Little Joe" electric locomotive built by GE in May of 1949, originally ordered by Russia but cancelled, hence the nickname after Joseph Stalin. The unit has the 2-D-D-2 wheel arrangement. Luckily it survives at the Illinois Rwy Museum where it has been lovingly restored to its shiny brilliant orange and silver paint scheme. No date was given for this photo but it appears it was a rail fan trip in the mid-1960's. No photographer listed.

The unit is now showing a lot of wear and will eventually be retired in 1982 only to be reborn at the Illinois Rwy Museum in Union, IL. Description:  Affectionately known as a "Little Joe" after the order for these units was cancelled by Russia by Joseph Staline, this 1949 GE double ended loco pulls a string of freight just east of the CSS shops in Michigan City, IN. Two years later, this unit will be saved from the scrap yard by the Illinois Rwy Museum in Union, IL, where it has been fully restored. Unknown photographer.
